Welcome to Tallarook and the Mechanics Institute.
Situated just one hour north of Melbourne, a stones throw from the Hume Highway or a relaxing ride on a V-Line train; the Tallarook Mechanics Institute has much to offer both the local residents and the traveller, who might by chance (or by will) drop by.
The Tallarook Mechanics Institute is run by an enthusiastic group of locals who strive to offer something different, something unavailable in the local area, for all to enjoy. Whether it be the monthly Farmers Market, highly regarded Art Shows, Theater nights or school holidays activities to keep the little ones entertained....this community hall in a small country town, has it all. May 2018 News: Sadly the Tallarook Mechanics Institute (TMI) Hall was engulfed by flames on Saturday night 5th May. Despite best efforts from over 50 CFA crew including neighbouring brigades the wooden structure was badly damaged. Mitchell Shire Council, owners of the building have assessed the damage and are working on a strategy to preserve what is possible with the view to inclusion in the new premises. It is believed that an electrical fault started the blaze.
Despite this tragedy the farmers market was held the very next day, just up the road. This offered patrons and stallholders the opportunity to continue the tradition of the first Sunday of every month.
As events occur we will endeavour to update the public on our activities and the rebuild. There will be the opportunity for community input as the process develops. The TMI Committee of Management is committed to preserving the community focus and events throughout these difficult times. We thank everyone for their kind support and offers of assistance.
